i know it’s wednesday now, but let me tell you, i had a crazy weekend. heather & i met this fellow sailor over the summer, named mick, that worked on the boat with us. she’s a pistol, really. her & heather are twins with a different hair color ‚Äì they have so many of the same mannerisms, likes, dislikes, crazinesses. she’d been living in the keys for a while, working on a boat, and then drove up to north carolina, and then decided to come visit us.
so she gets in friday evening, & i get a text message from heather at, like, 7. saying that they’re already a beer or two in, and i’d better get over there. it was a long day at work, & i was eating the dinner i’d made, & had a bit of a headache, but i’d promised to go out with them, so i headed over. poor charlie, he’s not doing very well, & it was probably a bad idea to drive him, but i did. i got there, we had a glass of wine, joked around a bit. heather’s mom drove us to colemans.
i started off ok, but her craziness wore off on me. heather was instigating, too. had a couple white russians, a couple car bombs (for the first time, by the way; delicious!) and pretty soon i was drunk. dancing, making chums with eighty year old women, being outgoing. i didn’t like the part where the room was wobbly, but i liked the rest of it. i never go crazy, i never get drunk. usually i have to drive, or i plain don’t wanna, but it was a special occasion. heather’s sister dropped me off at my house. we had a really great time.
next morning, we assemble (far too early, mick woke me up at like, 10, with a text message saying just, "PANCAKES!!!"), and head over to IHOP. i had some eggnog pancakes, and they have this delicious custard inbetween them, and eggs & sausage & hashbrowns & mmmmmm. we joke around, they yell at me for taking pictures, and before i know it, we’re in skaneateles. we went just to show mick the town & the lake, because it was such a gorgeous day, and when we get into town, we see this dude in a dapper overcoat & top hat, blowing on a trumpet on the street corner. then we notice a pleasant young lady in a bonnet & shawl. and once we get to our parking spot, we realize we happened through a time portal, landing ourselves squarely in 1843. they’re handing out free hot chocolate, there are carolers roaming the street, old timey shops selling christmas wares, the works.
so we spent the day wandering around, meeting constables & magicians & charles dickens. looking at the beautiful lake, enjoying the old library, and going for a horse & carriage ride. there were a million people out, and it was all overwhelmingly cheerful. i did my best to get video of the whole fun day, but, well… i’ve been so excited about the slow motion option on my new camera that i didn’t consider it’d look funny if every clip were slow motion. but whatever. it was great fun.
and the nikon film contest’s deadline is coming up in just a few days, so i stayed up late last night working on a score & trying to piece together the footage i’ve shot so far into something somewhat coherent. i’d say it’s only okay, but considering that i haven’t made a film in a couple years, & considering the other entries i’ve seen, i might have a shot. the scenes themselves look great, i just need to relearn film-making. but at least i did it. deadlines are a good motivation. you should watch it in hi-def here, but go look at it & leave a comment here so i can win.
anyway, i thought it best to document my weekend.

When did you get to be so talented? Your film was lovely. Two minutes was much too short.
