Hey, stranger. Want to login?
it’s on tonight.
today is one of those days when i feel really connected to people. i was very productive all morning, working in the lab when i did not have class. and i went to visit teri in my old thesis class, where we chatted for a while. she came to get me when it was lunch time, and a bunch of us went out to get lunch, and came back and ate together in a big group on the fourth floor.
and then tonight, ohhhh tonight. chris’s class, which is turning out to be the best class i’ve ever had. he looked at the logo’s i’d made, i walked him through the pdf presentation i’d constructed. he was impressed with how professional the presentation was, i think, and was unsure of whether or not the company would want to go further with any of them. but he called them for me, and they’re gonna review it and get back to him by the end of the week. i worked on thesis stuff, made the user system for our thesis site, which got done in a pretty decent amount of time. much faster than expected.
then chris and i had a really interested conversation. he and i dunno each other yet, kuz i’ve never been in his class before, so we ended up talking about a bunch of things. things he’s done in his past, me too, why i want to do meaningful projects, cool ideas he’s had for meaningful projects, web design, business, starting a company. it was really cool. he gave me a new assignment, i asked for something with a humanitarian cause, and he pointed me to heifer international, a nonprofit that helps with hunger by raising animals and donating them to people who need food. cows for milk and dairy, pigs, etc. i’m to come up with a concept and board out a commercial for them by next week.
and then. jay came over, just to say hi. he asked what my thesis was, because he hadn’t heard. i told him about how i’m working in a group, which he thought was cool. and how they’re in a different department, which was cooler. and then i explained what we’re actually doing, and he was really interested, and really excited. so excited that when john was walking by, he flagged him over and was like, “have you heard what micah’s doing for his thesis project??” he hadn’t, so i told him, too. and he was really excited. and we all started discussing it, and they had some really good ideas of things that’ll make it better, and ways to get the word out and whatnot. and john brought up that he kind wasn’t doing anything for his thesis, just doing random boards and practicing techniques. and so i challenged him to compete with me, and do the same thing chris just assigned me. and next week we’d meet in this class, and see what the other came up with. collaboration, man! healthy competition, and helping each other! while helping a charity! it’s fucking beautiful, and i am just so excited, and rejuvenated, even at 11 oclock after a 14 hour day.
oh, and steven and i started talking about music, kuz he was listening to my shared itunes. and he mentioned how kali makes music and sings, and i mentioned how i’ve been looking for an open mic around here but couldn’t find one. so we decided that on thursday night, while i’m working, we’re gonna have a little jam session. i’ll bring my guitar, and we’ll pass it around and sing songs and such. some people think we’re kidding, and some people hope we’re kidding, but we are serious, and i cannot wait. thursday night, woo!
