Hey, stranger. Want to login?
today was a pretty decent day. @ school from 10am to 11pm. wow, was i at school that long? i’m basically done programming our thesis site, just in time for our midterm presentation tomorrow, which is relieving. just minor details mostly, as far as ruby on rails. still have to do the CSS and all, but hopefully that’ll go somewhat quickly. who knows.
we spent a lot of time working on a style. we’ve “explored” so many options, our files’ version numbers unbelievable. we’ve been getting lots of opinions, most of which involved “investigating” something completely different. we were getting frustrated. how many more ideas can we come up with before we want to stop working on this project at all? eventually, we’ve got to finish something, right? so we stood up and looked at what we’ve got.
we’ve been toying with the symbol of a white picket fence for a week or two, it seems. it symbolizes the way things ought to be, the perfect little setting; something to aspire to, something we can get if we work for it. it’s a symbol of small community, where people know your name and help each other out, because neighbors are important. that’s what we want to evoke from people; we want to inspire people to see each other as friends and help each other out.
so we decided that, while our teacher feels the white picket fence is limiting and doesn’t speak to those people who don’t live in the suburbs or countryside, the point is not the place, but the idea behind it. at this point, we’ve decided to keep the fence and the neighborhood. maybe something will change after our presentation tomorrow, who knows. but so far it makes sense.
and that’s that. as far as that goes.
